Push:Music – open call for musicians.
Modul:Projects and Brighter Sound present Push:Music, an artistic residency and performance series for electronic and laptop musicians aged 16-25.
This is a unique opportunity for electronic and laptop musicians to work intensively to develop their skills, collaborate with other artists and build their profile. Participants will work towards group and individually tailored artistic outcomes including new tracks, recordings and techniques for collaboration and live performances.
Successful applicants join us for ten specially designed weekly workshops during which they will work with our internationally renowned artists to collaborate and create new work. The new work will be premiered at two performances at Band on the Wall.
The workshops will focus on collaboration, improvisation, audience engagement and playing laptops live as musical instruments.
Leading the residency:
Dan Valentine is an electronic musician and artist, whose work as part of Rainer Veil has seen him release music through Manchester’s Modern Love imprint, as well as performing at esteemed venues such as Berghain and Boiler Room. Dan utilises a range of hardware and laptop based techniques to create abstract club music.
Aliyah Hussain is a multidisciplinary artist working with performance, drawing, sculpture and sound, and is interested in exploring futuristic narratives within her exploration of different mediums. She recently released ‘Sultana’s Dream’ on the Islington Mill based Sacred Tapes label; a record that veered between tense, rhythmic noise and bubbling aquatic ambience. Aliyah has worked collaboratively as a member of Horrid; a founding member of performance collective Volkov Commanders (active 2010-14); is one part of “Compostition” a sound and drawing performance/workshop developed with John Powell-Jones and performs regularly as a solo artist.
Chaines is a contemporary composer and multi-instrumentalist, whose EPs on Slip Imprint (SPLIT, 2013 & OST 2015) blur the borders between popularist and experimental music. More recently Chaines has written for cellist and producer Oliver Coates, been in residency with 2016 SAY award winner Anna Meredith and performed with the London Contemporary Orchestra in Rod Arad’s Curtain Call alongside Mica Levi and Matthew Herbert at Roundhouse, London.
Danny Saul is a PhD candidate at the University of Manchester, working in areas of electroacoustic composition and laptop performance. His works have been performed internationally, including performances at the NYC Electroacoustic Festival 2014, the Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium 2013 and the International Computer Music Conference 2014 in Athens. He has toured throughout the UK, Europe, USA and Japan.
Josh Horsley is a composer and lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire. He is currently undertaking a doctorate, and has presented papers and compositions at the Toronto Electroacoustic symposium, Sound and Sculpture Conference, Music as Interdisciplinary Practice, and NEC Culture in Uppsala.

All electronic musicians (composers, performers, producers etc.) aged 16-25 are invited to apply.

Performances: Sun 12 Feb and Sun 19 Feb 2017, 7.30pm
Applicants must be available to attend all sessions in person at Band on the Wall.
