Nourished By Time is the musical project of Baltimore-born artist Marcus Brown, whose genre-blending sound fuses post-punk, New Wave, R&B, electro-funk, and experimental indie pop. His deeply personal song writing explores themes of love, labor, existentialism, and hope through a meta-modernist lens, creating music that is both soulful and subversive. Since launching the project in 2019 as a creative escape from day jobs, Brown has developed a distinctive, dreamlike sound that has captured critical acclaim.
Brown’s breakout debut album, Erotic Probiotic 2 (2023), earned Pitchfork’s Best New Music and appeared on numerous Best of 2023 and 2024 lists, including Gorilla vs Bear and The Guardian. In 2024, he released the EP Catching Chickens on XL Recordings, inspired by a memorable scene from Rocky. The EP further established his reputation, with features in CRACK Magazine, NPR, and a standout performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Brown writes, produces, and performs all his music himself, and his live shows have sold out venues across the US and UK.
This summer, Nourished By Time will release his first full-length album on XL Recordings, The Passionate Ones. Recorded between Baltimore, London, and New York City, the twelve-track album is a raw and powerful reflection on late-stage capitalism, love, and resilience. It continues Brown’s exploration of deeply personal and socially conscious themes, solidifying his status as one of contemporary music’s most compelling and innovative voice.
