Straight after the Monophonics show we’re throwing a big Funk & Soul party with Band on the Wall resident DJ Jamie Groovement – free for all ticket holders or just £5 without!
Following a sold out London show in 2016, Monophonics return to the UK! Raised amid the rich musical culture and history of the San Francisco Bay Area, they proudly carry the torch through the generations into today’s musical landscape. Holding on to tradition, but by no means purists of any kind, they play their own brand of music known as “Psychedelic Soul”.
The 2012 release of Monophonics last album ‘In Your Brain’ saw the band pulling influences from such acts as early Funkadelic and Sly and The Family Stone. With their new LP ‘Sound of Sinning’ the band explore other important influences; the groups that were inspiring soul acts to embrace the psychedelic sound of the 60’s and 70’s.
Even with the exploration of new musical territory, they display the sound that people know and love about Monophonics. Touching on Northern soul, doo-wop, funk, rock and roll, psych-pop, and cinematic music, Monophonics show off their diversity while remaining true to their roots. Theirs is heartfelt music and old school vibes, without losing sight of the present. The band are renowned for incredible live shows and have firmly established themselves as one of the most in-demand bands of the genre.
“One of the best live soul bands I have ever seen!” – Al Bell (Record producer, songwriter, executive, and co-owner of legendary Stax Records)
Special guests for this show are Crowd Company, an acclaimed 8-piece band from London with a modern, original take on vintage funk and soul. Brimming with energy and catchy hooks, melodies and tight grooves the band combine a retro Hammond organ-based sound with a virtuoso horn section, soulful lead and harmony vocals.
