Celebrating the release of his new LP ‘Derevaun Seraun’, Kiran Leonard appears live at Band on the Wall accompanied by a string trio who will perform the album in its entirety, with Leonard on piano.

Set to be released 15th September on Moshi Moshi, Derevaun Seraun is the follow-up to 2016’s acclaimed Grapefruit LP. Lead single ‘Living With Your Ailments’ is a seven minutes plus song inspired by Albert Camus’ 1942 philosophy work The Myth of Sisyphus. “I read it for the first time as an unhappy, nervous 17-year-old and I found it deeply moving and comforting,” says Leonard. “It is an essay about taking the cards we are dealt – mortality, nothingness, uncertainty – and doing our best with them, in humour and in optimism and in open-mindedness.”

Kiran Leonard is a 21 year old musician from Saddleworth, Greater Manchester. After a slew of Bandcamp releases as a teenager, he came to predominance with the release of debut record proper Bowler Hat Soup in 2013 when he was still just 17 years old. A double album, ambitious in scope, it boasted three BBC Radio 6 Music-playlisted singles, as did its follow-up Grapefruit in 2016.

Both albums were featured as an Album Of The Day on 6 Music. Leonard has performed live several times on both Lauren Laverne’s and Marc Riley’s 6 Music shows, as well appearing on BBC Radio 4’s Front Row programme. His music has been compared to, among others, Dirty Projectors, Slint, Swans, Deerhoof, Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright and Jim O’Rourke.

This is a seated show with limited standing. Presented by Hey! Manchester.
