Julaba Kunda is a collaboration between two outstanding traditional fiddle players with their roots 3,000 miles apart. Gambian griot Juldeh Camara, acknowledged worldwide as one of the finest Fula musicians of his time, and ex-Waulk Elektrik fiddler Griselda Sanderson from Clackmannanshire, Central Scotland, are Julaba Kunda (meaning ‘trading company’ in Fulani).

For this unmissable live set, Gris & Juldeh launch music from Traders –  their debut CD which is rapidly gathering outstanding reviews from the mainstream and world music press alike. ..’a  telling combination of inspiration and hard work…lovely stuff & full of endless surprises..’ Nigel Williamson, Songlines Magazine.

Expect an extraordinary encounter where the desert sounds of West African riti, a one-stringed fiddle of ancient design, meets its European sisters the violin and the amazing Swedish nyckelharpa, to bring us snaking Fula trance melodies from the Sahel’s nomadic herdsmen joining tumbling strathspeys & reels from Scottish crofts & dancehalls. Expect a wonderful night of music from these marvelous musicians.

This event starts at 8.30pm but our Picturehouse cafe bar opens earlier for homemade food and drinks.
