Kevin Legendre presents a showcase of four emerging jazz bands in association with BBC Introducing, which supports unsigned, undiscovered or under the radar musicians across the UK. All four acts have submitted their music via the BBC Introducing Uploader and been selected to perform by a team of BBC DJs including Jez Nelson (Radio 3) and Gilles Peterson (Radio 6 Music).
They are:
Nérija – born from the Tomorrow’s Warriors jazz education programme, this all-female septet of composers and performers cites influences from Joe Henderson to Kurt Rosenwinkel.
Ashley Henry Trio – Ashley is a London-based pianist and composer currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music under Gwilym Simcock. His music blends the classic and contemporary sounds of the piano trio tradition.
Cameron Vale – Leeds-based quartet combining jazz, rock and electronics. Expect a high-energy blend of polyrhythms, improvisation and riffage!
Phaze Theory – London-based quartet with an unusual pairing of tuba and voice, dedicated to “exploring the vastness of the musical cosmos”.
