Directed by renowned saxophonist Munch Manship, learn the principles of jazz theory which will be explored through your personal instrumental performance.
 
Work through melodies and chord sequences relating to the Blues, Latin, Bebop and Jazz Standards to improve your improvisational skills. Each week you will learn a new tune and explore different eras of jazz.
 
This is for musicians who can read music and are at grade 5 or above (or equivalent).

Week 2 – Swing improvisation – Ain’t Misbehaving by Fats Waller
Week 3 – Bossa Nova – My Little Suede Shoes by Charlie Parker
Week 4 – Exploring solos – Honeysuckle Rose by Fats Waller
Week 5 – 5/4 time – Take 5 by Dave Brubeck
Week 6 – Tango and blend – Petite Fleur by Sidney Bechett
Week 7 – Tonal centres – Flinstones Theme by Joseph Barbera/William Hanna
Week 8 – Modes – Little Sunflower by Freddie Hubbard
Week 9 – Funk – Watermelon Man by Herbie Hancock
Week 10 – Waltz – Alice in Wonderland by Sammy Fain

The course will end with a performance on our Bar Stage on Sunday 1st December.
