Presenting Inner City Waves #2 – a free-entry showcase of some of our favourite local emerging urban artists, featuring…
Berry Blacc
Berry Blacc is a rapper and producer from the rain soaked streets of Manchester. The son of two DJs, he’s part of the hip-hop collective Cul De Sac, and has recently started work with Werkha (tru thoughts). He is working on his own solo project “From Maia” which will be released on November 15th. From Cyphering with Kendrick Lamar to running community based projects for young people, Berry Blacc is a humble rapper with a lot to give and a lot more to come!
J. Chambers
J is one of those special artists; the ones who speak through the soul and not the ego. He possesses an earthy realism and rare ability to connect with the audience. Captivating and charismatic, his delivery is sharp, controlled and concise. After a string of independent releases, Chambers has firmly stamped his name into the UK hip hop elite, and his live performances have him highly respected on the circuit, supporting some of the most respected hip hop artists in the world; Dead Prez, Oddisee, Akala and Roots Manuva. He even kicked a hip hop cypher with Kendrick Lamar! Back to back, bar for bar with one of the greatest rappers this generation has seen. It is safe to say J Chambers has arrived, and isn’t going away any time soon.
Blind MIC
Blind MIC aka Skrrt Cobain is a 20 year old rapper/producer from Old Trafford. He’s been involved in music for about 10 years now. MIC began as a blues guitarist, before gradually transitioning into rap aged 15, when he met Afro Sam and Kiva of the Free Wize Men. Their stand out track ‘Is Ya With Me?‘ is a chilled out anthem from these Manny backpack rappers. From this he formed Bugdet Boyz (Sangy and Berry Blacc) and Lychee (LayFullStop and Don Zulu). Lychee’s debut single ‘Down‘ is hella wavy, with Blind MIC laying down smooth production for him and LayFullStop to flow over. Blind MIC is quite the astute producer and produces around 90% of his music.
His most recent project is Codeine Bluez (released in May 2017), which I’d called a mix of trap/blues/rock. Make sure you check it out to see what Blind MIC is all about. For the future MIC told us that “now that the E.P. is finished, I am looking forward to going back purely to producing and hopefully will be releasing a jazz music project in the near future.”
Tobi Sunmola
“Such an outstanding talent for us in Manchester, Tobi Sunmola epitomizes the young fresh talent emerging from the UK at the moment, that could rival anything produced across the Atlantic. Originally from Nigeria, now an honourary Mancunian, he is making some of the industry’s biggest names sit up and take notice with his blend of ancient vocals and lyrical chants, we expect big things are on the horizon for this BBC Introducing favourite.” – Natalie Eve-Williams and Michelle Hussey from BBC Introducing in Manchester
We also welcome Band on the Wall favourites Better Day DJs to spin tunes until the early hours.
Please note: venue is subject to capacity and free ticket registration does not guarantee entry. Please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
This is a standing show.
