War Stories: Armistice Day Matinee with Harp & a Monkey
To mark Armistice Day (November 11), the Band On The Wall is delighted to announce a special performance by the award-winning song and storytelling trio Harp & a Monkey.
The Manchester-based outfit will perform their acclaimed ‘War Stories’ show that was originally commissioned by the Arts Council and Western Front Association to mark the centenary of the First World War.
This special one-off matinee performance will feature recordings of people who lived through the Great War, traditional and original songs about lesser-known aspects of the conflict and humorous and poignant tales (many of them local) by band frontman and respected WW1 historian Martin Purdy.
The band rarely perform this show in full, so this is a rare chance to see why It has garnered such huge critical acclaim.
Here are just some of things to have been said about the ‘War Stories’ show… “Bold and brilliant” (The Observer); “Courageous, demanding and ultimately satisfying.” (FolkRadioUK); “A unique and unmissable sonic monument.” (RootsWorld, USA); “The most beautiful songs ever made on this theme.” (AltCountry, Germany); “Excellent.” (The Guardian); “Brilliant.” (BBC Radio 2 Folk Show).
