Band on the Wall presents Free Jazz – a free-entry event showcasing some of the most exciting jazz / funk / soul artists you need to know. Sign up for free entry and discover new music from the likes of Apes Grapes, Porij, Fresco and Joshua Cavanagh-Brierley.

Apes Grapes
An experimental ‘power trio’ with the force and volume of a rock band but with the invention and sophistication of a new jazz trio; Apes Grapes likes to explore the capabilities of the guitar-based trio. Using traditional methods, such as in their composition ‘Maria’s House’, or more modern/unorthodox techniques, seen in the video ‘Blow up, Zoom in’, the band hopes to create unique, genre-spanning pieces of music where great tension and relief coincide. The sound comes from a diversity of electronics and inspirations such as Pat Metheny, Battles and Steve Reich with the sets often being continuous, improvising or composing sections to blend the pieces together.

Porij are an electronic-jazz five-piece with grooves straight from Manchester.

Fresco is a pop-funk band formed at RNCM. With choruses to sing to, grooves to dance to and an energetic stage presence, this 5-piece is putting the soul back into pop music.

Joshua Cavanagh-Brierley
Bassist and bandleader Joshua Cavanagh-Brierley leads a Manchester-based ensemble, performing his original jazz compositions.

This is a mixed seated and standing show.
