Folk Group Summer 2018

  • 05.06.18 - 31.07.18

Join our summer series of Folk Group sessions with traditional fiddle star Emma Sweeney. Learn to play Irish folk tunes and styles by ear on any instrument.

This established and informal folk group course focuses on traditional Irish folk with an emphasis on authentic style, ornamentation and embellishment. Taking place over nine Tuesdays from 05 June to 31 July, the course is open to competent and returning players of any instrument, including whistle, flute, accordion, harmonica and guitar. If you and your instrument can carry a tune or a chord sequence, then you can play it as part of this course.

These nine two-hour sessions take place in the Education Room at Band on the Wall.

“A great way to learn some traditional tunes, improve aural skills and learn about how to play in an authentic Irish style.” – Course participant

This course caters for players of all backgrounds (including jazz, classical, rock, pop and world music). Experience of playing in folk styles is obviously an advantage, although by no means compulsory. Tunes will be learned by ear with supporting audio resources available online as the course progresses for practice in between classes at home.

If you are not sure about your level or the suitability of your instrument to the course please contact tim@brightersound.com for some guidance.

This course is brought to you by Band on the Wall and produced by Brighter Sound.
