Band on the Wall present the king of Afrobeat Femi Kuti and his band The Positive Force.
Earning his tripes as a teenager playing saxophone in his father’s band, Egypt 80, Femi Kuti formed his own band The Positive Force in 1986, releasing critically acclaimed records, receiving Grammy Nominations and collaborating with artists as diverse as Common, Mos Def, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jane’s Addiction.
Femi is the true heir to the Afrobeat throne, his music reaching across the globe with a powerful and distinctive voice. Like his contemporaries, Amadou & Mariam and Baaba Maal, this is a jubilant, funky music and dance mix.
Femi is a man committed to redefining Afrobeat for a new century and a new audience. He is a charismatic bandleader who has streamlined Afrobeat’s sound, making it punchier, more immediate, more up front and personal. With the unfailing assistance of his ever-dynamite Positive Force band, the message is shorter and sharper, but always says what needs to be said. By doing this, Femi manages a neat three-way trick – firing up the head, the heart and the feet.
