Extra Love throw a variety of spices into the Reggae/Dub pot creating their own distinctive and very danceable flavour. With big vibes, grooves to make you move your waist line, and deep bass that rolls all the way down your spine this band is in its natural habitat when mashing up dancefloors. Expect equal helpings of conscious music and unself-conscious dancing at an Extra Love gig.
With a formidable rhythm section laying down a foundation that’s as much influenced by the funky sounds of Afrobeat as it is the sounds of Reggae and Dancehall, skanks and soundscape pranks from the guitar and keys and powerful, vital lines from the trio of jazzy hornsmen, two charismatic vocalists complete the line up. Kuntri Ranks (aka. The Lion King) is a respected Reggae veteran, who has previously had to fill the rather large boots of Prince Far I with the pioneering ‘world’ music group Sons Of Arqa. The Greek ying to Mr. Ranks’ Jamaican yang is Angelos Gavriilidis; a melodic and passionate singer / lyricist whose vast musical output encompasses everything from acoustic singer/songwriter ditties to downright filthy Techno productions.
Each individual regularly performs in a myriad of styles and other projects. All of these influences rub shoulders when the band kick out the jams, creating the progressive Extra Love sound. A sound which is steeped in but refuses to be solely confined to the ‘Reggae ting’.
Extra Love and its members have shared the stage with top international artists such as Afrikan Simba, Top Cat, Channel One, The Beat, Rico Rodriguez (The Specials), Craig Charles, Ariya Astrabeat Arkestra, Kenny Knotts, Finley Quaye, Gentlemen’s Dub Club, The Undertones, Beats and Pieces and many more. The band can often be found spreading the love vibrations on the festival scene as well as appearing regularly at venues and clubs across their native North West and beyond.
Line up is:
EXTRA LOVE
with support from TOBA
DJs – DAVE THE RUF & SIR ROBIN LONGSHOT
TOBA (previously known as Kurfuffle)
With a change in lineup and a new approach and edge to their songwriting this band are making their return!
An exciting and original instrumental quartet.
“Using the band members’ Eastern European and Mediterranean cultural backgrounds as inspiration, Kurfuffle produces amazing sounds, mixing exotic warbling notes with evocative jazzy overtones. Every piece is varied; one minute it could be slow-paced and dreamy, the next, pounding along with a driving beat.”
