“Stupefyingly impressive beats, Dizraeli’s intelligent impassioned storytelling and backing from the impeccably folky yet funky band, tonight’s entertainment is rapidly elevated far beyond that of a normal hip hop show to something quite remarkable”
Venue Magazine
Folk hip hop outfit Dizraeli And The Small Gods is fronted by Dizraeli, the award-winning slam poet and former frontman of hip hop band Bad Science. He’s supported by The Small Gods- a blindingly gifted set of musicians featuring the steel-string genius of composer-guitarist Lee Westwood, the voice of Cate Ferris (who has worked extensively with Martha Tilston), and the astonishing Bellatrix (Female Beatbox World Champion) on beatbox and double bass. This is a band who combine the virtuoso musicianship of old folk music with the improvised wildness of hiphop to stunning effect. Indeed, with their debut album Engurland (City Shanties) drawing on sea shanties, gospel and blues, they’ve created a form of hiphop that speaks for the streets and the valleys in equal measures: a folk music for the 21st century, telling English stories of love and grief and defiance. Considered one of the great new talents to light up Glastonbury in 2010, come and get your fill of this amazing band.
“Revitalising, invigorating, stimulating… UK Hip Hop has not seen anything quite like this before.” Certified Banger Magazine
