Daraa Tribes + Gnawa Manchester

  • Sunday | 11.01.26
  • 7.30pm
  • Band on the Wall, Manchester

Daraa Tribes are a musical collective born in the heart of the Moroccan Sahara, in the town of Tagounite, along the ancient Drad Valley. The group brings together musicians from diverse cultural and tribal backgrounds- Amazigh, Sahrawi, and Arab – united by a shared desire to revive ancestral rhythms and reimagine them through a modern, creative lens. Their music draws deeply from oral traditions and spiritual rituals, creating a journey through sound and soul. It blends traditional percussion instruments-such as the tbel, grageb, and bendir – with modern elements like electric guitar, sound effects, and live improvisation. The result is a rich, immersive experience the band calls “Saharan Organic Trance” – both grounded and transcendent. Daraa Tribes sings in Tamazight (Berber), Classical Arabic, and Moroccan Darija, reflecting a multi-layered cultural identity. Their live performances are known for their energy, emotional power, and ceremonial quality, transforming each show into a collective ritual of connection and rhythm.

Gnawa Manchester is defined as trance music from Morocco.
The repetitive beats with the spiritual performance creates more than just a music genre! It is a deeply cultural tradition from the 11th Century.
Zakaryae who plays the Gimbri (bass guitar) has brought this music to a modern audience in the UK by creating a band with a fusion twist of instruments incorporating Sub Saharan sacred traditions to Jazz and Blues mix. Gnawa music will take you on an elevated magical and mystical journey!
