  • Band on the Wall presents the holy grail of rare groove / funk gigs: all the founder members of Cymande playing together for the first time since 1974.

The music pioneers Cymande emerged as innovators of the black-British music scene during the early 1970s. Influenced by their Caribbean heritage, and growing up around the rich, diverse elements of the Black British musical experience, Cymande created a new and exciting sound captivating audiences throughout the UK, USA, Europe and the continent of Africa.

After releasing three albums “Cymande”, “Second time around” and “Promised Heights” which featured future rare groove and breaks classics such as “Bra”, “Brother’s on the Slide” & “Fug” the band disbanded in 1974.

Cymande’s music has been sampled by a proliferation of successful artists, they have accumulated a faithful cult following, and upon reflection, the band’s perpetual emblem, the dove, symbolizing peace and love, conveys the enduring and true spirit of togetherness between the band and its loyal and ever growing fan base.

Almost 40 years after the band formally stopped performing, Cymande, is back together and have recorded a new album scheduled for release in late 2014.
