Astounding sounds! The internationally-acclaimed multi media concert Cinema Solariens returns to Manchester with Marshall Allen (Sun Ra Arkestra) and Daevid Allen (Soft Machine / Gong). Featuring live, spontaneous and frankly visionary music by two of music’s most eccentric and legendary figures performed to the dazzling films of James Harrar, this has become an unmissable event on the international concert calendar.
Now in its 18th year, Cinema Soloriens is a multi-media performance consisting of James Harrar’s experimental and highly personal film and video images with a live musical rendering of soundtracks for each film. The musical concepts are created, directed and performed by Harrar (tenor sax, flute, bulbul tarang, reeds, voice and effects) with Marshall Allen (alto sax, flute, keyboards, EVI and effects), Daevid Allen (guitar, effects and voice) and Rogier Smal (percussion and electronics) plus a stellar changing line-up of gifted musicians. Each individual concert is a fresh and often exhilarating attempt to reveal deeper levels of interpretation within Harrar’s acclaimed visceral film poems – the 21st century equivalent of the early silent film musical accompaniments. Except this time round expect psychedelic rock, jazzy stomps and utterly brilliant, totally out there improvisations. Advance booking recommended for this legendary show.
This event will begin at 8pm but our Picturehouse Cafe Bar is open earlier for delicious food and drinks.
