Chetham’s Jazz department makes a welcome return to Band on the Wall.
Chetham’s Jazz department, featuring both the school’s big bands, makes a welcome return to Manchester’s iconic jazz venue to round off the year with a varied and entertaining programme.
Chetham’s Big Band has won the Junior Section of the BBC Radio 2 Big Band of the Year Competition three times. The Big Band has broadcast for the BBC from London’s Golders Green Hippodrome and Birmingham’s Pebble Mill Studios, and received the Gold Award at the Boosey and Hawkes National Concert Band Festival on numerous occasions.
The last Big Band concert at Band on the Wall was named as one of ‘twelve tremendous things to do in Manchester’, and the band’s many successful alumni include saxophonist Alexander Bone – winner of the inaugural BBC Young Jazz Musician award in 2014, and now working with Nile Rogers, Rudimental and other icons of the jazz and contemporary music scene.
