Recently inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame, American southern soul and gospel diva Candi Staton has been thrilling audiences with her raw, heartfelt and incredibly powerful voice for over 50 years.  She began her career in the 1950‘s as part of the Jewel Gospel Trio, and is most famous for her 1976 disco hit Young Hearts, Run Free. She returned to the spotlight in the early 90’s as the dance mix of her song You Got The Love thrilled clubland audiences the world over and in 2009 a version was released again by indie sensation Florence & The Machine.

2006 saw her change direction again with His Hands. Produced by Lambchop and co-written with country legend Will Oldham, this demonstrated the diversity of this one-of-a-kind talent.

Candi Station was famously described asa voice with a tear in it, the cry of a woman wounded by life, by men, by woes turned inwards” and it is with great pleasure we welcome this true legend to The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Advance booking strongly recommended.

Presented by SENBLA and Band on the Wall at The Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester.
