Band on the Wall has a long history presenting young bands, with the New Manchester Review and Showcase Well North of London. Any Dark Night continues this tradition, giving flourishing young acts the opportunity to play at the venue, and reach a new audience. Each night presents four of the region’s newest acts, and is just £6 in!
Blank Cheque formed two years ago, initially as a duo before expanding to a four piece with the addition of bassist Josh Taylor and drummer Adam Hockenhull. Brothers Tom & Josh Phillips play acoustic guitar and saxophone, as well as providing lead and backing vocals to complete the group’s sound. They sight a wide range of influences, from the Arctic Monkeys to jazz greats like Charlie Parker, and are all accomplished musicians themselves. They have released two EPs, both available to hear on Soundcloud, and have appeared at festivals across the UK.
Manchester four piece The Madding Crowd fuse elements of psychedelia, punk, rock n roll with impassioned poetry, in their attempt to push music boundaries, and make the best music they can. They’ve released three EP’s since forming in 2010, and have had radio play from stations across Manchester, as well as from Stuart Maconie on BBC 6 Music’s ‘The Freak Zone’. They pride themselves on their dedication to making music and their latest release “A Stitch in Time” shows their ambition and determination.
Black Sonic Revolver are a strong rock ’n’ roll outfits, who bring flavours of psychedelic rock to their forceful sound. Since starting out as a vehicle for front man Leon Kenny to perform his songs live with full accompaniment, the band have become a tight musical unit. They released their first album last year, and received a great review from A Joyful Noise, with them proclaiming: “The spirit of rock ‘n’ roll is very much alive and well with Black Sonic Revolver”.
Kindest of Thieves is the one man rockabilly force of Christopher J. Fox. He’s taken his one man act across the North West, playing both solo shows, acoustically and electrically as well as playing with a band at several shows. He recently played a Garage Door session down in London, and has released many demo tracks in preparation for a debut release.
