This was the first appearance from Malian artist Ali Farka Toure at Band on the Wall; a musician and singer, internationally renowned for his blending of traditional Malian music with the blues, which helped to develop a style now widely referred to as ‘desert blues’. In 1992, Toure released an album with U.S. blues artist Taj Mahal, and featured in The Wire’s Invisible Jukebox. His son Vieux Farka Toure has also played at Band on the Wall several times.
