A Free Event
A free Brazilian spectacular presented on the closing day of Manchester Jazz Festival. Manchester-based Global Grooves exist to raise awareness of the African roots of international percussion and dance styles. They lead a full-costume parade through the city centre featuring 40 musicians and 20 dancers, starting in Piccadilly Gardens at around 5pm and culminating in an open-air, static 30-minute performance in Albert Square. The roots of Afoxé lie in the ritual music of the Afro-Brazilian religion of Candomblé, and it is commonly performed on the streets of Brazil to spread love and good energy, and to ‘cleanse the streets’ before and after carnival.
This event is followed by The Big Easy – Manchester Jazz Festival’s Official Closing Party featuring Stanton Moore Trio and presented by Band on the Wall. Click here for details.
