Lifted from London-based rapper Barney Artist’s latest full length album Home is where the art is, Breakdown Cover is a succinct, humorous and impactful cut that ends the album on a high. Intrigued by its accompanying video, which sees Barney and his musical peers Tom Misch, Alfa Mist, Jordan Rakei and DJ Chux appearing alongside him, we spoke to Barney about the creation of the track for Inception to Mixdown, exploring how the tune came together and to what extend the guys in the video were involved in its production.
Barney reveals that a combination of embarrassing experiences from shows down the years informed his bars, while the beat was one that stood out on Tom Misch’s deep storage drive. We also discover how the Loyle Carner voice note came into existence, and the role that Barney feels the track plays in the record as a whole.
