Disco fever may have initially taken hold in 1977, but it was an altogether more refined, multi-national and exuberant style come 1979. Forty years on, we’ve pulled together ten tracks with disco-funk flavour from throughout West Africa, the Caribbean and South America, to tell an hour-long story of disco-funk either side of the Atlantic, during that vital musical year.
Our playlist features funky joints with lashings of hand percussion from Bunny Mack, Harari and Louie Ramirez, and serves as the ideal party primer for Discolypso. The club night returns to Band on the Wall’s bar on Friday and is free entry, but you can find out details here. Where else will you find a global funk soundtrack complete with live percussion, for free?
