‘Black Dub’ has hit the road! Samory-I, one of the most spiritual and inspirational voices in contemporary roots reggae, is UK-bound for his first British tour, alongside The Black Heart band. To help stoke our excitement, the young vocalist has released his new single, For He Reigns, alongside two dub mixes of the track.
Having worked closely with producer Rory Stone Love to perfect the black dub aesthetic of his studio LP Black Gold, he teams this time with producer XTM.Nation. The bright horns and sizzling hats give the instrumental a sharp quality, while Samory-I’s impassioned vocals carry exalting messages.
Samory-I is an artist both in tune with the contemporary and appreciative of the classic. His cover of Syl Johnson’s profoundly moving seventies cut Is it Because I’m Black?, which he performed a brilliant studio version of for 1Xtra in Jamaica earlier this year, is proof of that. His tremendous range and tone suggest he’s capable of great things and we’re excited for him to take to the stage at Band on the Wall, on Wednesday 8th August.
