Manchester-based label Midication recordings, with whom we’re excited to have linked fornext month’s Inner City Waves, have announced two new tracks and videos this week.
RJ, the latest MC signed to their ever-expanding roster of urban talent, recently wrapped the video for shoot NRG prod. By JSD of Virus Syndicate. His forthcoming visual will be a family affair, with fellow label artistsPrima, Dyno and Persia all on location for the shoot.
Meanwhile The Book of Ely, an artist and professional boxer influenced by the hard-hitting sound of mid-norties rap, is slated to release his video for Letter to my Mum ft. Prima later this week. Directed by Manchester’s Kieron Tyler Spencer, it captures the grit and emotion of what’s clearly a very personal track for Ely. You cancheck out a sneak peak of the track and visual here ahead of its full release.
Both videos have us excited for the forthcoming Midication showcase, headlined by pre-eminent grime and hip-hop MC Dyno. Having released his debut mixtape in 2005 at the age of 16, he’s one of the label’s most respected artists and a dominant presence on Manchester’s underground scene. His self-produced 50 Shades freestyle, accompanied by a rough and ready KC Locke visual, is a perfect introduction to the multi-talented artist and can be viewed below. Despite not receiving plaudits to the level of his famous London counterparts, we’re confident he’d give most of them a run for their money!
Persia, an MC co-signed by plenty of London-based artists and influencers, plus vocalist Kayess complete a bill brimming with energy. Both artists with abundant confidence and vocal ability – Persia crafts cutting bars like those on latest track Official, while Kayess has honed a sound that marries soul and RnB melodies with a contemporary, rhythmic delivery.
