Ibibio Sound Machine share new track ‘Give Me A Reason’

Afro-funk outfit Ibibio Sound Machine have released a new single from their forthcoming album Uyai, slated for release on Merge records in early March. The track is called Give Me A Reason, and though infectiously groovy, with a Gary Numan-esque synth lead and percussion aplenty, it was inspired by serious events transpiring in Nigeria in 2014, when terrorist group Boko Haram kidnapped hundreds of schoolgirls from the town of Chibok.

The kidnapping spurred lead singer Eno Williams to create a song which would challenge and empower people, as she told Entertainment Weekly, and this is the fantastic result!

Catch Ibibio Sound Machine live at Band on the Wall on 28th March.
