Cory Henry made an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in July, sitting in on organ with house band The Roots and wowing the crowd with some virtuoso organ tricks. You can see a behind the scenes video of Cory’s experience on the show, including footage from his performances and chat with Jimmy Fallon below.
Aside from his recent solo project The Revival and his continuing work with instrumental powerhouse Snarky Puppy, his band The Funk Apostles is his main means of expression. With a line-up featuring two drummers, synth and keyboard wiz Nick Semrad and shredding guitarist Andrew Bailey, their sound is free and funky, allowing Henry to improvise in the same expressive way as he does with Snarky, while also singing on songs with more conventional structure and throwing in one or two far-out cover versions (last time at Band on the Wall, Prince’s 1999 and Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On were given the Funk Apostles treatment).
Cory discusses his recent secret show at Playground Studios in L.A. and the next chapter, in the below video. Have a watch to hear a snippet of some new Funk Apostles music!
