Cory Henry, Jacob Collier and Laura Mvula were among the jazz and popular music stars lined up to play the music of Quincy Jones at the prom dedicated to him earlier this week. Arranger and conductor Jules Buckley led the Metropole Orkest through renditions of some of Jones’ finest compositions, before the musicians joined them on stage for renditions of pop material, produced or penned by Jones.
A highlight of the second half was Cory Henry and Jacob Collier’s rendition of Billie Jean, laden with vocoded vocals and punctuated by the smooth Metropole strings.
