Congolese outfit Mbongwana Star created a significant buzz with the release debut album From Kinshasa last year, picking up five star reviews left, right and centre for what was a gritty, artefact-laden, punk infused take on Congolese rumba. The Guardian called it an album which ‘defies comparison’ in their glowing review, a view echoed by Drowned in Sound who say that ‘Mbongwana Star reassemble the pieces of their native music into a forward thinking new form.’
This month, they embark on what is the first 100% accessible UK tour, both for the benefit of their two frontmen, themselves wheelchair users, and the gig-going public. Band on the Wall is proud to have a gold award in accessibility from Access Is Everything, an independent organisation who assisted in the planning of this tour, and are equally proud to be involved in it.
