Cedric Myton, vocalist with legendary reggae outfit The Congos, comes to Band on the Wall on Friday 2nd September alongside The Upper Cut Band.
Myton began his music career with rocksteady outfit The Tartans, before forming The Congos with fellow singers Roydell Johnson and Watty Burnett in 1977, and releasing the seminal Heart of The Congos, produced by Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry. The album, which was recorded at Perry’s Black Ark Studio, is regarded as one of the best reggae records ever produced, and ranks at #46 on Pitchfork’s Top 100 albums of the 1970’s. Myton became known simply as ‘Congos’ in Jamaica, releasing several solo records under the name. Today, he is one of roots reggae’s most distinctive voices, and he’ll be bringing a careers worth of music and messages to Band on the Wall.
