Brighter Sound presents a new folk group course for spring 2016 with traditional fiddle star Emma Sweeney. Learn to play Irish folk tunes and styles on any melodic instrument.
This new folk group course with Emma Sweeney focuses on traditional Irish folk with an emphasis on authentic style, ornamentation and embellishment. The eight week course is open to any melodic instrument, including whistle, flute, accordion, harmonica and guitar. If your instrument can carry a tune then you can play it in these sessions.
There will also be group performance opportunities to play with Emma at local folk ’sessions’ in the Manchester area at the end of the course. This is a friendly way to ‘test the waters’ of the local folk scene with a respected and experienced player at your side.
This course is for intermediate to advanced players of all backgrounds (including jazz, classical, rock, pop and world music). Experience of playing in folk styles is obviously an advantage, although not compulsory.
Each week will run as follows:
7-7.30pm – A short preparatory session for players with little or no experience of playing folk music
7.30-8.30pm – More experienced and advanced players join the group to all play together for an hour
8.30-9pm – The advanced group will then work exclusively with Emma
(If you are not sure about your level or the suitability of your instrument to the course please contact us HERE for some guidance).
