Plaistow

29 January / 19:00 / More Info / Free Entry

Sometimes we come across a band who we feel you just have to see, so we run the “Band on the Wall recommends” series; inviting you to catch the newest bands who are on our tip list, for free!

This time, we introduce Plaistow.

The classical trio line-up – piano, bass, drums – is revisited from top to bottom, free from any stylistic constraint. The band’s music, entirely acoustic since double-bassist Vincent Ruiz joined early 2012, is constantly evolving.

One could find varied influences such as Steve Reich, Philip Glass, The Necks, Craig Taborn, Matthew Shipp, Rabih Abou-Khalil, Nizar Rohana, Berlioz, Squarepusher, Plastikman, Mad Professor, Scorn. Formed in 2007 in Geneva, Plaistow – their name inspired by a composition of Squarepusher – have since played more than a hundred concerts and released eight studio albums.

After a long collaboration with various netlabels, primarily Insubordinations, their latest album, Citadelle, is released by the swiss label Two Gentlemen Records (distribution Irascible).

“The music by the Swiss band Plaistow is often dubbed “post jazz”. However, what Plaistow actually does often defies genre definitions and could be anything from minimalism to improvisation.” Free Music Archive
