Youth Lagoon aka Trevor Powers is an artist who constantly explores the light and dark sides of the human experience. This is unapologetically evident in latest album Savage Hills Ballroom, an album of piercing clarity and great sensitivity. Powers engages with issues many acts fear to broach, and surrounds his inquisitive character with lush, electronic chamber pop to great effect, expanding his sound without losing any of the intimacy he has created previously. Savage Hills Ballroom was produced in Bristol by Ali Chant, a man whose credits include Super Furry Animal’s Gruff Rhyss, Perfume Genius and PJ Harvey, his influence is seen in the album’s range, veering from pop to art rock and electronica.
