With a kinetic, earth-shaking sound and an electrifying live performance, MOBO Award-winners Sons of Kemet feature four of the UK jazz scene’s brightest stars. Hailing from the murky world of the London post-jazz scene with a distinctive street music feel, the group bears influence from the dynamic vibe of New Orleans music to the percussive intricacy of West African drum music with some Caribbean dub flavours thrown in for good measure.
The credentials accumulated by the group are astonishing; led by saxophonist, clarinettist and composer Shabaka Hutchings awarded a ‘BBC New Generation Artist’ title, this is a ‘supergroup’ of sorts, featuring Theon Cross on tuba and both Seb Rochford (Polar Bear) and Tom Skinner (Melt Yourself Down, Mulatu Astatke) on drums.
The colourful interplay between the instruments of these fiercely creative musicians will have you mesmerised from the start. This is a band that need to been experienced live!
