Mikey DON’s Summer Mix

Ahead of next Friday’s Night of the Living Dread, we asked NOTLD main-man Mikey DON to share some of his favourites tracks with us.

Take a look below:

Jallanzo – Reggae Rockin Tonight
An absolute modern day underground classic that I have been playing for over five years & made my anthem by my artist out of Portmore, Jamaica. Absolute KILLER tune!!

Morgan Heritage – Strictly Roots

The title track from their latest LP produced by wicked UK duo Don Chandler & Seani B. Absolute MONSTER track!!

Dalton Harris – I’m Dumb

Artist for the future & Jamaica’s latest artist tipped to break into stardom following in the footsteps of Romain Virgo. Produced by legendary Jamaican producer Donavon Germaine (Beres Hammond/Buju Banton/Queen Ifrica/etc…). BIIIIG tune!!

Busy Signal – What If

A brilliantly written song laid down on a reworking of Little Lenny’s ‘Gun Inna Baggy’ riddim that is having the dancehall fraternity up in arms because a number of people think that Busy is dissing Vybz Kartel, when in fact it is the opposite. WICKED tune!!

Barry Brown – Peace & Love

This tune epitomises what roots reggae music is all about. A message of living in unity no matter what colour, race or creed produced by Jah Thomas.

Courtney Melody – Bad Boy

This track is simply a dancehall classic which never fails to rock the spot released in 1988 on the Techniques Record Label owned by Winston Riley (RIP).

Capleton – Attack Dem

Capleton smashes it on this riddim. Do I need to say anymore?? Attack dem with the righteous…

Stylo G & Gully Bop – Who She Want

Jamaica’s man of the moment teams up with UK’s dancehall sensation in a comical lyrical clash about which one of them the women would prefer to have in their life. Dancefloor filler.

Barrington Levy – Murderer

One of the sweetest voices in reggae music comes with an absolute 80’s classic produced by Jah Life over the classic rework of Clement Dodd’s ‘Hot Milk’ Studio 1 riddim.

Chronixx – Play Some Roots

Germany’s Silly Walks stable comes up again with the goods and this collaboration with Jamaica’s Chronixx is a modern dancefloor hit. This riddim also features Dalton Harris, Shaggy and Ras Demo amongst others on this heavy riddim. Get familiar!!
