Having now released 8 albums under his own name for Drag City records, and many dating back to 1997 under the name Appendix, Alasdair Roberts is a seasoned professional when it comes to his self penned material and his beautiful interpretations of traditional songs. The Scottish songwriter is one of the finest singers of traditional music in the UK, and has been praised by The wire and Uncut magazine for his ability to push the boundaries of traditional music with masterful technique.
His 2013 album A Wonder Working Stone received rave reviews from Mojo and Uncut magazine, and in January 2015 he will release his new album “Alasdair Roberts”, which saw him return to Glasgow’s Green Door Studio, to record an album of sparce, intimate and concise songs, focused around his deft acoustic fingerstyle guitar and warm voice, with the occasional features of clarinet, tin whistle and backing vocals. The recording was an all-analog affair, and suits these darker, warmer songs perfectly.
His show here will see him playing a combination of old and new material of both traditional songs and his own pieces. He will be supported by Quincey May Brown, who has become a favourite from our Acoustic Bhuna nights, and is the perfect accompaniment for an artist like Alasdair.
