Band on the Wall to partner with Songkick on Detour project

Band on the Wall are very pleased to announce a partnership with Songkick as part of their new Detour project.

At Band on the Wall we pride ourselves on bringing the best in Global music to Manchester at our Northern Quarter venue and to venues across the rest of the country.  We work with artists from almost every continent, and every genre of music, from Afro Beat to Jazz to Experimental Psych.  Understanding what our audience wants is important to us, and that’s why we’re interested in what Detour is all about.

Some words from Songkick to introduce the concept:

“At the heart of Detour is a belief that true fans can help their favourite artists come to their city sooner. Right now as a fan if you want to see a new band live, say Merchandise, a great new act from Tampa, you have to wait till someone else (a combination of the band and the promoter) decide to take on the financial risk of confirming a show and traveling to a new place. Detour London gives fans a way to help the artists they love, by stepping up and committing to buy a ticket, telling the band “If you come, I’m in”.

“We launched Detour London before Christmas and within a matter of days over 50 fans, lead by Sean from Drownedinsound, had started a campaign to bring Desaparecidos to London. We reached out to the band’s management and on the back of that support confirmed a show. When we spoke to Desaparecidos they told us;
 “We couldn’t be more excited to finally make it over to the UK- we are about a decade overdue and look forward to putting ten years of anticipation and excitement into our performances.”
  Not only that, the Detour London show also helped to confirm a full UK tour for the band, which is super exciting.”

Detour lets fans pledge on the artists they love as a way of expressing their commitment to attend live events. Subsequently, Songkick and local promoters work together to try and make the shows happen. Since the launch of Detour in London fans have pledged for over 1000 artists to help acts from all genres of music and comedy come to London. Confirmed gigs include performances for acts as diverse as Zoe Keating, GOAT, Aziz Ansari, Television, Colin Stetson and Desaparecidos.

Songkick and their various promoter partners are now launching the service nationwide to discover what people want to see. “We’re thrilled to be working with some of the best independent promoters in the UK to launch Detour across 10 new cities” says Hogarth. “Promoters are the lifeblood of live entertainment in this country and we look forward to helping them bring more amazing concerts and events to music and comedy fans.  Detour is now live in the following cities: Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Nottingham, Manchester,Sheffield.”

We at Band on the Wall are very excited by the fact that we can link our ideas to our audience needs and desires directly, and from then on put together even more great shows and tours.  Our wish list of acts so far includes;
