Bio

Ella Edmondson is a contemporary singer songwriter based on Dartmoor in Devon. She has been playing her trade around the UK for a few years, whilst honing her performing and song writing skills.

Ella has recently finished recording her debut album ‘Hold Your Horses’ produced by Andy Seward (Kate Rusby, Roddy Womble, Eddi Reader). The album includes stunning performances from a host of award winning UK folk musicians, who between them have been largely responsible for the enormous popularity of the genre today. Guest Appearances include John McCusker, Kate Rusby, Andy Cutting and Jim Causley.

“ It was amazing to work with such brilliantly talented people in the studio. My songs aren’t folk songs, but I love folk instruments, and they’ve helped me get exactly the sound I was looking for.”

Influences come from far and wide – she grew up listening, like many others, to music at home. Adrian Edmondson, her dad, impressed heavy metal and punk on her from an early age, whilst her mother preferred country music like Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton amongst many others.

Ella played piano as a child, recording her first song at the age of twelve with none other than Glyn Johns (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Emmylou Harris). Ella was given her first guitar by her father when she was fourteen, and has been writing in preparation for this release ever since. In terms of writing credits, the album is entirely written by Ella, apart from track ?, ‘Hidden Scars’ – a co-write with Glyn’s son Ethan Johns, a much sought after producer himself with credits including Ryan Adams, Kings of Leon and Rufus Wainwright.

This being her debut album, it would be fair to say that ALL Ella’s experience to date has been gained on the road, performing with many great names of today and yester-year. Ella has already shared the stage with such legends as Midge Ure, Martin Carthy, Jaqui McShee’s Pentangle, and Jools Holland. Of today’s rising stars the likes of Julie Fowlis and Rachel Unthank have also recently requested Ella open for them.

Never shy of a performance, and eager to grasp opportunities, Ella has crossed the country many times, appearing at festivals and halls big and small – consistently achieving rave reviews and most importantly building up an ever-growing army of loyal fans.
