Without Borders brought together young musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds, each carrying their own musical influences and traditions.
Heritage Film
Directed by acclaimed Afghan filmmaker Tamana Ayazi, 'The Song We Carry' follows the lives of young people involved in our Without Borders project, talking about the stories, music and cultures they carry with them in Manchester today.
Early Years Provision
The project saw practitioners bring our popular Early Years programme out into emergency hotel accommodation, bringing music, play and participation to young people and families living there.
Spotlight Artist Development Programme
For many artists arriving in the UK, continuing their musical practice can mean adapting to a new cultural and professional landscape. The Spotlight programme supported three artists whose work is rooted in distinct musical traditions, each shaped by personal history, cultural memory and migration.
Mother Song, Father Song
Songs often carry memory of place, language, family, and identity. In these sessions, people who had recently arrived in Manchester shared songs from across the world; from Iran, Sudan, Syria, Eritrea and beyond. As participants sang and played together, these different musical heritages met and evolved, creating new connections between participants and cultures.
