Passing on Heritage Through Sound and Play 

For very young children, heritage is often experienced before it is understood – through rhythm, voice, movement and early memories. 

Drawing from our successful Early Years programme for the community, we created similar sessions where families living in temporary accommodation could reconnect with these early forms of cultural expression. Through singing, playing instruments and sensory play, children were introduced to sound worlds shaped by many cultures, while parents shared in familiar and new music traditions. 

At the same time, these sessions created opportunities for families to meet and form connections, allowing cultural practices to be shared between communities. 

Here, heritage was not presented as something fixed but as something living – passed between generations through everyday experiences of music and play.
