Foot Patrol c. 1985

On 15th June 1996, Manchester City Centre fell victim to a tragic bombing on Corporation Street. At the time, The Greater Manchester Police issued an official police notice to buildings and establishments in the city centre, requesting any planned events be cancelled. Here’s a photo of the police notice we received on that day, now framed above the venue box office.

Appearing at the club over the two month period were folk performers John Renbourn and Dick Gaughan, jazz saxophonist Andy Sheppard with his 'Moving Image' Quartet and legendary American songwriter Terry Callier among others. Meanwhile, clubs were rich and varied with The Big Chill New Years Eve party featuring the Hospital Records Soundsystem, African and Latin dance from Club étoile, reggae from roots&dub and jazz and funk from the Freshly Squeezed live acts and DJ Mike Chadwick.

Edward II album launch at Manchester Central Library
On Friday 18 February 2016, English roots musical collective Edward II launch their album 'Manchester’s Improving Daily' with a special show Manchester's Central Library. Manchester's Improving Daily is a collection of rare and historic songs, known as the Manchester Broadside Ballads, dating back over 200 years to the Industrial Revolution.
