The Wailing Souls 14th May 2010
The Wailing Souls are part of the small surviving group of reggae and roots originators still performing and recording today (2010). The group dates back to the late 1960s and the band’s members got their start learning from reggae icon Joe Higgs in Jamaica’s Trench Town yards. They sung alongside other emerging groups at the time including Bob Marley & The Wailers.
By the 1970s they attracted interest from reggae producer Coxson Dodd and began a fruitful recording career. Fusing the harmonies of Motown with the roots and dancehall sounds of reggae, The Wailing Souls have released a string of provocative, highly regarded albums and (2010) continue to tour internationally.
Filmed by the Band on the Wall AV Unit on 14 May 2010.
