Michael McGoldrick Band, live at Band on the Wall

On this excerpt Michael McGoldrick displays his virtuosity on the Uilleann pipes to a packed Band on the Wall (home turf for Michael) on 9th October 2009.
Though rooted in Irish traditional music, the band draw in other influences and are strong on improvisation. The line-up is:

Dezi Donnelly – fiddle
Johnjoe Kelly – bodhran
Donald Shaw – keyboards
Parvinder Bharat – tabla
Ewen Vernal – bass guitar
Che Beresford – drums
McGoldrick was born in Manchester to Irish parents and took up the flute at an early age. He won numerous All-Ireland Championships and at the age of 16 became a founding members of the Manchester Irish folk rock band, Toss the Feathers. Amongst his many awards are the BBC Radio Two Young Tradition Award (1995), BBC Folk Awards Instrumentalist of the Year (2001) and Artist of the Year (2006). He has collaborated with John Cale, Youssou N’Dour and Jim Kerr.
Dezi Donnelly, born into a Manchester fiddler dynasty, was a child prodigy, becoming All Britain Fiddle Champion at the age of 9, and had won the All Ireland championship 5 times by the age of 15.
