Ahmed Dickinson Cardenas is a virtuoso guitarist who, with his trio, perform a fresh repertoire that combines traditional Cuban and Latin American genres and classical styles with jazz influences.
Born in Havana, Dickinson Cardenas began playing drums and percussion at age 4, then classical piano and guitar at 9. He graduated (a year early!) with 1st class honours from the Superior Institute of Art (Havana). Later he studied at the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London.
For almost a decade Ahmed worked closely with the late Cuban guitar composer Jose Antonio (Ñico) Rojas, transcribing, learning much of the old master’s unpublished works, enabling access to this cultural legacy for future generations of guitarists.
In 2009,he won the awards for Best Instrumental Soloist & Best Instrumental Album at Cubadisco 2009, the prestigious Cuban Music Record Industry Awards, for his recording paying homage to Rojas.
