The legendary Suns of Arqa farewell concert featuring Wadada and friends.

Suns of Arqa is an epic sonic mission led by Michael Wadada, who formed the band in 1979 during a trip to Kingston, Jamaica to work with the legendary roots reggae artist Prince Far I. Wadada has gone on to collaborate with 200 musicians from around the globe, re-interpreting various indigenous, tribal and classical folk traditions and creating some of the most sublime Dub-World-Dance-Raga-Reggae music in existence. His band have also performed at many of the UK’s top festivals, including the very first WOMAD, Glastonbury and The Big Chill.

Starting with the cult classic album ‘Revenge of the Mozabites’ (in cahoots with Adrian Sherwood), SOA have spent over 35 years (and a similar number of albums) exploring cultural commotions and have been a seminal influence on ‘World Beat’ music. UK talents who have contributed to the band’s phenomenal legacy include producers John Leckie and Youth, A Guy Called Gerald, John Cooper-Clarke, Prince Far-I, The Orb’s Alex Patterson, 808 State’s Graham Massey, Zion Train, the late Professor Stanley Unwin, Muslimgauze and more.

The latest album ‘Wadada’ paves the way to higher ground and is open to all those who want to come along for the ride. The album is a tribute to all the musicians who have been part of the amazing SOA journey and features several classic tunes from their back catalogue alongside new gems.
