Band on the Wall welcome one of the most interesting new minds in music, Swindle, dubbed the ‘Herbie Hancock of improvised grime’.

“I don’t think about genre at all because I was never raised like that,” says the man known as Swindle. “Genre/schmenre. Music is everything and everything is music.” A huge part of his appeal is the array of genres he floats through within his albums and frenetic live shows, easing his way through dubstep, grime, hip-hop, funk and jazz. His records constantly surprise, making some gloriously sudden left turns to take you towards a completely different sonic destination. Swindle operates on the super-sharp cutting edge of now, he’s also got a canyon-deep appreciation of what’s gone before, clearly inspired by other open-headed folk like Stevie Wonder and Prince.

This is an artist who could be a British Timbaland, a British Pharrell, someone who could bring underground innovation right to the heart of the mainstream – so would you like him to do that, or would you prefer he capitulated and just made Ikea flat-pack beats?

Bringing the beats until the early hours are Manchester’s own BPM, who bring a dedication to good vibes all round, a commitment to showcasing what is really pushing it in UK urban/dance music, from old skool garage to future garage, two step, UK funky, grime and bass music with 140BPM!!!
