Courses & Participatory Events at Band on the Wall

 

We have designed musical activities for everyone – all ages, abilities and levels of experience. All courses are designed to be accessible and affordable – for those who are currently workless, lone parents or carers courses are free or reduced – please contact us for details. So, if you are interested in developing your musical and creative abilities in a friendly, relaxed and supportive environment, read on.

THE PICTUREHOUSE CHOIR (LEVEL: BEGINNER – EXPERIENCED) 
We believe everyone has a singing voice given the right teaching and encouragement. The new Picturehouse Choir is a multi-generational a-cappela choir for ages 9 to 90 and is ideal for family groups, individuals and teachers to learn songs from all around the world. Great fun and a real learning experience.

GLOBAL GROOVES (LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE – EXPERIENCED)
Dance to a different beat with our strand of World Percussion dance and song courses. These 7-10 week courses will include West African drumming and dance and song, South Asian Dhol drumming, Indian dance, military percussion, Cuban percussion and Orixa dance, and a multi-faceted drum skills programme to complete the programme in 2010. Extend your skills and techniques in, and knowledge of a wide range of world music in an engaging and supportive atmosphere. Sessions are great fun, and highly addictive.

BAND ON THE WALL IMPROVISATION GROUP (LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE – EXPERIENCED)
These acclaimed jazz improvisation classes return to Band on the Wall led by North West sax legend Munch Manship. 

Play from a specially arranged and ever-expanding book of standards from all eras and jazz styles. Boost your improvisation skills and develop your style in this supportive and sociable group.

TAP RHYTHM PROJECT (LEVEL: BEGINNER – EXPERIENCED)
Based on the principals of jazz improvisation, this dance activity is aimed at all ages and abilities. Shoes are provided — just turn up and tap. This autumn we are piloting two classes (Beginner and Improver) and a tap “jam” performance in a new slant on an old style with tap artiste Jess Murray.

* All courses are supported by online resources and recordings of key sessions and performances where appropriate. Tutors are all experienced leaders in their field and we already have a list of exciting visiting guest artists to lead some sessions.
