BIOGRAPHY

Manchester-based singer/songwriter Najia Bagi has been singing since the age of 15 and writing for 15 years or so. Her influences range from Billie Holiday to Anthony and the Johnsons, classical musics and Arabic music (her name is Libyan – she has an Arabic father and English mother). She sings with various groups in Manchester and elsewhere.

Najia has gone down a storm at many top UK festivals and venues including Band on the Wall, Kendal Calling, Eurocultured, FutureEverything, CultureFest, Trip Festival and The Castle, supporting acts such as Bugge Wesseltoft, Denis Jones, Julianne Barwicke and Martina Celeste.

PROJECTS

Najia Bagi (solo project)

Najia's music is a simple yet profound combination of piano and voice. Her haunting melodies and softly-spoken yarns tell stories of loss, betrayal and murder, blended with bittersweet themes of love and reminiscence. Najia's performance is an audiovisual experience - combining acoustic songs with projected visuals and live digital sampling - a truly immersive insight into her mystic landscape.

The Electronic Exchange (electronic duo)

Najia Bagi and Tullis Rennie are The Electronic Exchange - an inter-european duo who write and record their music entirely via the web from their respective homes in Manchester and Barcelona.

The result is an explosion of danceable grooves, illustrious vocal sampling and creative intervals and turns - combining dubstep with sophisticated techno sampling and Spanish rapping... a melting pot of influences that has gone down a storm at festivals and showcases around the UK.

Najia Bagi is available as an acoustic duo with guitarist Paul Balcolme. The duo is available for restaurants, bars, hotels and parties, and do a wide range of jazz, soul and pop covers.
