Information

Emerging from the New England music scene in the 1970s, Kath Bloom has been a huge influence on the burgeoning and re-energised folk movement in the USA with artists such as Devendra Banhart and the UK's Scout Niblett covering her songs.

Based in Litchfield, Connecticut her lo-fi songs with beautifully emotive and honest lyricism matched only by their sparse and contemplative melodies are an utter delight.

The daughter of acclaimed oboist Robert Bloom, she collaborated with Bruce Neumann in the early '70s, but it wasn't until she met avant-garde guitarist Loren MazzaCane Connors in 1976 that she started recording. Bloom and Connors recorded multiple albums of fragile, simple folk and blues melodies, the majority of which were written by Bloom herself. Following an extended maternity break in the 1980s, director Richard Linklater discovered Bloom's music featured it in his 1995 film Before Sunrise which led Bloom to begin writing again. A tribute album entitled Loving Takes This Course was released in 2009 and features artists such as Devendra Banhart, Bill Callahan, Mark Kozelek, The Dodos, and Scout Niblett. Band on the Wall is delighted to welcome this authentic American voice to Manchester for this very special concert.

Special guests tonight are This Frontier Needs Heroes - an American folk duo consisting of brother and sister Brad and Jessica Lauretti who sing honest, personal stories of love, loss and longing.

This seated concert will begin at 7.30pm
